A Reflection on Our Digital Safety Workshop

A Reflection on Our Digital Safety Workshop

As the Campus Director of Aii Language Center, Chbar Ampov Campus, I see firsthand how hard our students work to build their futures. While we maintain a focused environment by not allowing smartphones on campus, we do encourage the use of laptops as essential tools for modern learning. However, with these tools comes a big responsibility.

On May 09, 2026, I held a workshop dedicated to Digital Safety. This was a special initiative for us to give back to the Chbar Ampov community. The main goal wasn't just about the technology itself, but about the parents and how they can guide their children to stay safe in a world that is always connected.

Realities and Experiences Shared

During our time together, I shared facts and personal stories about the digital world. It is a place filled with information, but it also has neighborhoods that aren't safe for children. We looked at the reality that while kids are often faster at using gadgets and apps than we are, they still lack the experience to spot dangers.

We focused on three main areas:

  • Being present while their kids are on their gadgets is the best way to prevent trouble.
  • How to talk to their kids about the internet so they don't feel like they have to hide their activity.
  • We discussed things like online privacy and how to handle situations where a child might see something they shouldn't.

Practical Tips for Every Home

For those who were unable to attend, or for those who want a quick summary of our main points, here are a few simple tips to follow:

  1. Don't just set rules and walk away. Sit with your kids while they use their gadgets. Ask them what they are learning or what they are curious about.
  2. Encourage your kids to use their gadgets in the living room or at the dining table. When screens stay in open areas, kids are naturally more careful about what they visit.
  3. We talked about teaching kids that not everything on the internet is true and not everyone online is a friend. Helping them develop this "filter" is a skill that will protect them for life.

Why This Matters to Us

At Aii Chbar Ampov, we care about the safety of our community. We want our homes to be places where kids can use technology to grow without being exposed to harm. It was wonderful to see parents take this step toward being more involved in their children's digital lives.

"Our children might know the technology better, but we know the world better. Our guidance is what keeps them safe."

Thank you to everyone who participated in this workshop. By staying informed and involved, we are making sure our community stays strong and our children stay protected.

Warmly,

Jayrald A. Salvacion
