Upholding Rights, Building a Better World

Human Rights Day is annually celebrated in December to honor the creation of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR). It talks about the fundamental rights of every human being, regardless of their race, color, religion, sex, language, political beliefs, national or social origin, property, birth, or any other status.

Communities and people can create a better future by embracing human rights. Peace, equality, and sustainability can be achieved by accepting and recognizing human rights as the basis to live in the world we desire.

Upholding human rights is essential because it guarantees equal opportunity for all individuals and shields them from misuse of power. They also benefit society and individuals from diverse origins, particularly those who are part of vulnerable groups.

All nations that have ratified the United Nations Declaration of Human Rights believe that human rights are fundamental. It celebrates freedom of speech, expression, religion, and the press, which are covered under these rights. It also gives people the freedom, security, safety, and right to live. At the same time, these rights shield people against persecution, abuse, enslavement, and death.

Along with remembering everyone's human rights, it's a chance to consider how far humanity has come. It's a day to honor those who have battled for the rights we all currently enjoy and their sacrifices.

Human rights are fundamental principles that ensure just and fair practice of political, social, and civil norms, designed to ensure the value of each person’s life. Regardless of their origins, skin color, or language, everyone in the world deserves to be loved, respected, and given the opportunity to express themselves.
