The Aii school community, with the unwavering support of Neak Oknha Dr. Mengly J. Quach, our Founder, Chairman, and CEO, successfully organized the charity events: Rise to 20: Aii Concert for a Cause and Aii Family Day on January 18, 2025, raising a total of $5,991.13 for Kantha Bopha Hospital and the Mengly J. Quach Foundation.
On February 28, 2025, Mr. Sophea M. Lay, President of Aii Language Center, along with the Aii School Committee and the Mengly J. Quach Foundation, visited Kantha Bopha Hospital. They were warmly received by Prof. Dr. Ky Santy, Director of Kantha Bopha Hospital in Phnom Penh, Mr. Tum Ra, Program Officer of the Cambodia Kantha Bopha Foundation, and Dr. Denis Laurent, Director General of Kantha Bopha Hospital.
In a poignant conversation with Prof. Dr. Ky Santy, he reflected on February 28, recalling that it was nearly the same date in 2017 when Dr. Beat Richner had to be taken to Zurich for examinations due to a serious illness, leaving all his belongings in Cambodia. He promised to return within a week; however, he remained in Switzerland and sadly passed away on September 9, 2018, near Zurich. Prof. Dr. Santy also explained that the hospitals are named after King Sihanouk's daughter, who lost her battle with leukemia. The logo artwork, created by Dr. Beat Richner, features a depiction of the princess's hair, along with other elements such as a tree, an elephant, and a lotus flower, symbolizing care, compassion, and dedication.
"My heart is filled with both joy and sorrow as I see the little babies in the hospital ward, bravely fighting after their open heart surgeries," Mr. Lay shared. "It’s heartbreaking to witness their pain, knowing how many children in Cambodia still need urgent medical care. No child should have to suffer alone. We hope to inspire everyone to extend a helping hand and support the life-saving work of Kantha Bopha Children’s Hospital."
Since 1992, Dr. Beat Richner, a Swiss doctor, has established five children's hospitals in Cambodia, offering a total of 2,300 beds across centers in Phnom Penh and Siem Reap. Today, these hospitals provide care for 85% of all sick children in the country, with many hospitalized children facing life-threatening conditions that would be insurmountable without these facilities. The hospitals specialize in diagnosing and treating pediatric diseases, offering services in pediatric surgery, cardiology, orthopedic surgery, emergency medicine, and more. In 2024 alone, over 1.2 million cases received support, including free examinations, consultations, and treatments for infants, children, and pregnant women. To date, a total of 2,177 babies and children have undergone open-heart surgery, thanks to the dedication of the doctors and healthcare professionals involved.
Aii Language Center, inspired by the initiatives and ideals of Neak Oknha Dr. Mengly J. Quach, continues to support organizations, hospitals, charities, and institutions to alleviate the struggles faced by the Cambodian people. The school emphasizes the importance of community engagement, incorporating projects that foster social responsibility into its curriculum.
Mengly J. Quach Education and Aii Language Center extend heartfelt gratitude to Neak Oknha Dr. Mengly J. Quach, along with the students, teachers, parents, and the entire Aii school committee. Special thanks are also due to guest artists Princess Jenna, Tena, Suzana, S.A.M, Sambath Sok, and David Eung Hao for their contributions to the charity events.
